A house of light

TABLE LAMP · DAV-E27-08

Two circles. One body.

Two circles. One body.

Turn it a quarter and it becomes another lamp.

The body is an oloid: everything you see is built from two circles and the straight lines between them, and every one of those lines is exactly the same length. Turn the lamp a quarter of a turn and it reads as a different object.

The form was described by Paul Schatz in 1929. Its surface measures exactly four times pi times the radius squared, which is 804 square centimetres, and all the 138.56 mm lines in that surface are exactly equal. Two identical halves are joined by hand with two component epoxy.
